Volume Discount - User Guide

Introduction​

The Volume Discount feature encourages customers to buy in bulk by automatically reducing the item's price as they add more to their cart. You configure "Tiers" (also known as quantity breaks). For example: Buy 1 at normal price, Buy 5 at 10% off, Buy 10 at 20% off.

This is the perfect tool for wholesale liquidation, pallet pricing, or incentivizing consumers to bundle identical items.

1. Accessing Volume Discounts​

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin panel.
  2. Navigate to Apps > [Your App Name].
  3. From the app dashboard, click Create Rule and select Volume Discount.

2. Field Reference​

General Information​

  • Rule Name: A private name for the rule (e.g., "Buy 10 Get 20% Off").
  • Status: Active (live) or Draft (not live).
  • Priority: If a customer qualifies for multiple rules, the rule with the lowest number takes precedence.

Volume Tier Settings​

Here you define the sliding scale of your bulk discounts.

  • Discount Type: Choose whether tiers calculate via Percentage, Fixed Amount, or Fixed Price.
  • Tiers Configuration (Adding Rows):
    • Minimum Quantity (Qty): The number of items required in the cart to trigger the discount.
    • Discount (Type): The value of the discount at that threshold.
    • You can add as many tiers as you want using the "Add tier" button.

Important Rule: Your minimum quantities must increase progressively. (e.g., Tier 1: Qty 5, Tier 2: Qty 10, Tier 3: Qty 20).

Targeting Configuration​

  • Product Targeting:
    • All Products: Tiers apply to everything.
    • Specific Products: Tiers apply only to selected products.
    • Specific Collections: Tiers apply to selected collections.
  • Customer Targeting:
    • All Customers: Everyone sees the bulk pricing.
    • Logged-in Customers: Only logged-in accounts.
    • Specific Customers (Tags): Limits bulk pricing to B2B or Wholesale tags.

Storefront UI Appearance​

When an active Volume Discount applies to a product, the app can display a table directly on your Product Page (PDP) educating the user on the bulk pricing.

  • Table Title: Text bridging the table (e.g., "Bulk Pricing").
  • Show Volume Table: Toggle on to inject the tier table below the add-to-cart button.
  • Table Colors: Use the visual color pickers to theme the border, header background, and text colors of the volume table to match your brand footprint.

3. Common Use Cases​

Example A: Retail "Buy More Save More"​

  • Tiers:
    • Qty 3 -> 10% Off
    • Qty 5 -> 15% Off
    • Qty 10 -> 25% Off
  • Product Targeting: All Products
  • Customer Targeting: All Customers

Example B: Wholesale Pallet Pricing​

  • Discount Type: Fixed Price
  • Tiers:
    • Qty 50 -> $40.00 exact price per unit
    • Qty 100 -> $35.00 exact price per unit
  • Customer Targeting: Specific Customers (Tags) -> Wholesale
